- Dead Air
Dusting off an old tumblr, now using it mostly just to reblog things that catch my eye. Almost certainly gong to have more stuff on their than on Black Ink, if you can about that sort of thing. Black Ink is (mostly) for things I want to comment on, or think that other people might find interesting or useful. Dead Air is for stuff I just don't want to forget. You may or may not find it interesting.
- Your Summer Beach Reading List for 2012
There's a lot in here on my must-get-round-to list. Assuming I can get them day-and-date digital. And ideally DRM free. :)
- The Verge at work: sync your text everywhere, never lose an idea again | The Verge
I need to make a couple of tweak to my note taking workflow, but this article is a good pointer for where I've been going wrong with getting simplenote and dropbox to play together.
- AeroPress “Ritual” on Vimeo
I adore my aeropress. Anyone who likes coffee and does not have one at home is missing out.

- Scripting Languages: PHP, Perl, Python, Ruby – Hyperpolyglot
Likely of no interest to non-webdev-nerds, but potentially of enormous value to me, in terms of learning new languages. I sort of vaguely know Ruby, but this direct translation from PHP to Ruby would speed what little ruby hacking I do.
- It's Sexy A-Levels!
A blog exploring the hypothesis that UK newspapers believe that only attractive girls in low cut tops do A-Levels.
- fleet street fox: More pictures like this, please.
A counter-argument: it is excellent that at A-level results time, the papers fill up with photos of attractive young women. Less sexist that you think.
- Tetrapharmakos – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I stumbled across this set of 4 simple maxims for a happy life, and really like it.
- Up, up and away into near-space in a beautiful bloon
Statement of intent: I will do this before I die.
- Special ed student raped by classmate, forced by school to apologize to him, then raped again, lawsuit claims (UPDATED) – Boing Boing
I wanted to link to this not because it's directly relevant to me (other than, y'know, as a human being with an ounce of compassion somewhere under a rock in here), or even because it's an exceptionally horrible story (it is, but the plain truth is that worse things happen every day, and I don't link to news about them), but just because it strikes me as a very, very stark reminder of how, even in the "developed" world, we still have such a very very long way to go before we can call ourselves civilised.

- Subversion Scripts for Mac OS X Finder
Handy set of version control scripts to handle simple SVN tasks.
- Notational Velocity
I've just dropped this on my work PC, and need to drop it on my home PCs, and then I'll have some completely joined up note taking tools – iphone, laptop, desktops, and, indeed, once I've hammered a quick script together, automated versioned backups of same.

- Remember everything. | Evernote Corporation
Must grab this for my home machine, and spend some time playing with it.
- Arvo Part
He got Bill Drummond's recommendation in his new book 17 (about which more another time), and Drummond's recommendation is usually enough for me to at least be interested. I've grabbed a recording of his "Berliner Messe" off Emusic, and well, yeah. I'm not much for classical music, because it really demands more concentration than I usually give music, but this is very nice.
- "Can I use procmail to filter my mail?" – DreamHost Knowledge Base
This is something I would like to learn to do better.
Can you guess what's on my mind today, boys and girls? - IMAP Spam Begone
Hmmm. If this works like it says it does, I may set it up on my home account – my ISP's Spam filtering is good, but not close to perfect, mostly because I can't be arsed to set up proper whitelisting, so instead I have to run at at a low enough level that it doesn't kill even close to all my spam.
