- 15 Ways To Improve London’s Train Network | Londonist
I liked this. A dozen or so usability improvements to the map and sinage, and a few other idea that make a suprising amount of sense, like reopening York Road.
- The 2014 London "Coffee Stops' Map
Tube map, listing the best coffee to be had near each stop. I take issue with a few of their choices, and their definition of "near" is a bit, er, different (their choice for Wimbldon, for example, is a 15 min walk up a steep hill to a place that is often *very* busy, which is more than I would want to both with if I'm just in town and want a quick coffee) but still: handy nonetheless.

- Germany sets new solar power record, institute says | Reuters
Just in case you can't be arsed to click though: Germany met 50% of it's national energy needs with completely clean energy at peak sunshine hours on Friday and Saturday. This doesn't mean that we're quite ready to get rid of other power sources yet, but seriously, if this is possible now, perhaps it's time for us to spend a bit more cash (read: any) developing solar power systems? Who knows how fast we might get to the point where many nations could power themselves with solar energy?

- Dead Air
Dusting off an old tumblr, now using it mostly just to reblog things that catch my eye. Almost certainly gong to have more stuff on their than on Black Ink, if you can about that sort of thing. Black Ink is (mostly) for things I want to comment on, or think that other people might find interesting or useful. Dead Air is for stuff I just don't want to forget. You may or may not find it interesting.

- Start Developing iOS Apps Today: Introduction
Any once again, I mutter "I'll get round to it one of these days" to myself… (In case you're wondering, I've been largely away from the t'internet for a week, being either parked in front of the Xbox or out doing museums and galleries, and I'm catching up on what I've missed.)
- In the Future Everything Will Be A Coffee Shop
I find the sort of future he's describing here quite pleasing, as he's essentially saying that the one aspect of modern life that cannot be reduced away is the idea of a social hub. The practical reality of the matter is that someone with an internet connect does not need to go to the shops, the office, or really anywhere, except places where they can be among other humans.

- Verisign seizes .com domain registered via foreign Registrar on behalf of US Authorities. » blog2.easydns.org – Happenings and observations
The US government have just demonstrated that they will sieze the internet based assets of foreign entities, even though no transaction related to those assets took place on US soil, and the crimes it thinks the company may have committed are not illegal in the places they may have committed them. This is (very) roughly like the US government marching into someone's home in London, and taking away their TV (that was purchased in London), on the grounds that it can be used to watch programs made in the US, because the owner, while living in London, drank alcohol at the age of 19. (I pick a trivial offence only because it's the first thing I can think of as an easy and everyday difference between US law and the law elsewhere.)
To quote the article: "This is no longer a doom-and-gloom theory by some guy in a tin foil hat. It just happened."

Anyone who has seen my desktop will know it tends to er, fill up a bit. So let's see if this makes it easier for me to manage my home work flow. (I know it won't work in the office, because of the sheer amount of random crap I need to get swift access to in any given week…)
