Keep Your Shades On

One from the “not really acceptable” files – much to noisy and blurred, even at this tiny size, and the mic stand is dreadful composition, but I like the light coming down behind Larry Love (in white), and the comparison between D. Wayne and Larry. (From the Alabama 3 gig I went to the other week, taken with the t30, which explains the noise. One day, someone’s going to do a compact that opens up to f1.8, and on that day, I will rejoice, and hand over almost any sum of money they demand.)

OK, I’m no Marc Atkins, but still – I love taking photos of the light around the Thames. It’s not like anywhere else I know.

Terminal

Another shot from the DLR – I like the lines and colours in this one, although I can’t shake the feeling that it the colour tone is slightly different on flickr compared to what I’ve got in in Lightroom. I know flcikr does a certain amount of auto-sharpening of uploads, but does anyone know if it messes with colour?

Two Roads

Possibly the single best thing about attending FOWA this week has been the chance to travel on the DLR, because given the time of year, I was on it in more or less the golden hour. The DLR offers views on London you’re going to get from anywhere else, and crucially, the construction of the trains is such that you can sit up the front as a passenger and look ahead. There is no driver.

(Aside: I got a load of funny looks from people, as I sat there with my camera out, snapping shots out the front and sides of the train. It must be terrible for the DLR to be enough of a regular commute that it looses that magic. Or to never see it in the first place.)

So here’s the first of few slightly imperfect shots, marred by the dirt on train windows. So what if they’re a little flawed. They’re still a little slice of London that I don’t often see.
