I Don’t Quite Know How To Respond

From the Department Of What The Fuck?, a campaign video from the Libertarian candidate for the US Presidency.

OK, it probably can’t have cost much, but still: people were paid to make that happen. Someone, somewhere, though that that would sway hearts and minds.

Good Morning World

Saturday morning in London town. Peruvian coffee in a New Zealand style. Croissant. Shopping for cheeses, new season asparagus, some wild beef, some bloody good chocolate and some dark german beer. Taking a few photos while I wander around watching the Market fill up. And now I’m sitting here sipping a rich hot chocolate in the shadow of a whoremonger’s cathedral, watching the river slip by. In a minute I’m going to go and take a wander up to one of the finest collections of modern art in the world, just to see what’s new. Then it’s off to buy a bottle of whisky before nipping home prior to watching some roller derby this afternoon.

It’s a rough old life. Hope your weekend looks as good to you as mine does to me.

Telephone Number Help

Does anyone know a reliable means of getting the current phone number associated with a UK address? Yes, I have googled, but all the references I can find via google are incorrect…

Edit: Crisis over, the number in question has called me.

Taiko!

Just back from seeing the Yamato drummers at the Peacock Theatre. They’re ace, and they’re there until the 30th, so you should see if there are tickets still available.

No, I don’t have much to say, I’m just posting because I wouldn’t want anyone to think that I was taking part in this poxy “content strike”. In a world that contains the Taliban, the government of China, the ongoing clusterfuck in Iraq, homophobia, racism, sexism and disgusting inequalities of all kinds, I find that I don’t have it in me to care that a corporation doesn’t want to let people use their services in a way that makes them no money.

My Computer Cheats At Backgammon

So, one of the things I’ve been trying to do recently is improve my backgammon game, to which end I have downloaded a backgammon game for the Mac. And it’s been working, in a frustrating kind of way. But I have been forced to conclude that the fucking things cheats. I can even provide pictorial evidence. Here is the position as we got into the endgame of the match I have just played.

I was playing the darker brown. Those of you who play backgammon might conclude that I was in a pretty strong position, there. Not perfect, but enough that at that point, I was pretty sure I had the game in the bag. But no.

I did not, in playing out the close of the game, at any point, make any stupid mistakes – at no point was there anything exposed that would have allowed the computer to hit any of my pieces. No, I just had to sit there and watch as out of the remaining ten or so turns left in the match, the fucking thing rolled 6 doubles, while I couldn’t seem to roll anything higher than a three for the duration.

This isn’t an isolated incident, either. Something like this almost always happens. Bastard thing. I’m going back to the Royal Game of Ur. I was good at that.

I’m going to bed to sulk now. Night, all.

A Useful Little Meme.

Lifted from a few people:

Everyone has things they blog about. Everyone has things they don’t blog about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by telling me something I don’t blog about, but you’d like to hear about, and I’ll write a post about it.

All answers will go to fuel my “one long post of some kind a week” attempt.

Transit

Right, off to the middle of nowhere for the weekend, pausing only for breakfast en route. See some of you there, and the rest of you later. Don’t break the place while I’m gone.

Photo printing

On my to-do list for this year: Making a serious effort to sell prints of my photos. (For those who aren’t aware, I have a sporadically-updated photo journal at electricana, and a portfolio website at http://photogr.aphi.st. Do feel free to friend the journal if you like the occasional pretty picture on your friends page.)

To which end, I am looking for a print-on-demand photo service that has the following features:

  1. Good printing – That’s a given, really. I want these to be professional quality, ta.
  2. An attractive website – Seriously, this is important. I want the purchase process to inspire confidence, and if you’re parting with your hard-earned in exchange an attractive object, you’ll feel better about it if you’re buying from somewhere that doesn’t look like a dog’s breakfast.
  3. The ability to link directly to individual photos – I want to be able to link to images that are for sale from my website and photoblog.
  4. Control of product and exact prices – The ability to control exactly which products are available for purchase, and at what specific price.
  5. A good admin system – I’d like not to want to kill myself or others any more often than strictly neccessary while setting this up.

Photobox, who I have used in the past has 1 and 4. Imagekind, who I am currently looking at have 2 and 3, and probably 1, but not 4 or 5 – I can select a percentage markup, or I can set certain base prices for specific images, but there’s no easy way just saying “A print of X size costs Y amount framed, or Z unframed” across the whole shop, which is what I really want.

I also need some guidance on the prince front.

So, your opinions please:

And if anyone feels like leaving me a comment telling me which, if any of the photos in my portfolio they’d consider paying cash for, well, that’s always appreciated.
