What’s the last thing you ate?
An eclair.

What’s your favourite cheese?
Bavarian Smoked Cheese.

What’s your favourite fish?
Big Arnold, the longest survivor of my Dad’s brief attempt to keep tropical
fish. I don’t eat fish.

What’s your favourite fruit?
Banana.

When, if ever, did you start liking olives?
Not yet.

When, if ever, did you start liking beer?

When, if ever, did you start liking shellfish?
Hasn’t happened yet. If it lives in water, man was not meant to eat it.

What was the best thing your mum/dad/guardian used to make?
My Dad’s roast dinners are marvellous. My Mum’s rice pudding is brilliant, if
non-traditional.

What’s the native speciality of your home town?
Strictly speaking my home town is Sutton, so bollock-all. But in familial terms,
the Ulster Fry.

What’s your comfort food?
I don’t know. A really good single malt, possibly. I don’t really turn to food
for comfort.

What’s your favourite type of chocolate?
Very, very dark.

How do you like your steak?
Well done. Not cremated, I’d note, like most resturants provide when you ask
for well done, but actually well done, which I’ve always understood to be the
point at which there is no pinkness left inside, but no more than that, and
certainly not blackened on the outside.

How do you like your burger?
Well done, with cheese, bacon, onions and a fried egg.

How do you like your eggs?
Scrambled.

How do you like your potatoes?
Cubed then lightly fried. There’s probably a term for it, but it’s whatever
my Mum does with leftover new potatoes. Ooh, and I like a really good jacket
potato. And potato salad with just a hint of mustard. Yes, I know, I know. I
just like potatoes.

How do you take your coffee?
Fresh ground, with milk.

How do you take your tea?
Strong, with milk.

What’s your favourite mug?
Toss up between my "Fuck Decaf" mug, or my blue ridged one what I
bought when I worked at Newsquest.

What’s your biscuit or cookie of choice?
Rich tea.

What’s your ideal breakfast?
Scrambled Eggs with herbs, really crispy bacon, a good sausage or two, and an
english muffin.

What’s your ideal sandwich?
Thick slabs of leftover roast beef straight from the fridge, with horseradish,
on fresh white bread.

What’s your ideal pizza (topping and base)?
A proper thin base (I eat deep pan at places like Pizza hut, because so few
places do a decent thin base). Pepperoni, garlic, onions, green peppers.

What’s your ideal pie (sweet or savoury)?
Cherry pie, ice cream. It would be steak and kidney, but I prefer than in a
pudding, rather than a pie.

What’s your ideal salad?
I really like M&S pasta salads – the honey mustard chicken on, in particular.
They also do a really nice lentil one…

What food do you always like to have in the fridge?
I generally have some faux-butter spread.

What food do you always like to have in the freezer?
I’d say ice cream, but actually I like not to have it, because I’d only eat
it.

What food do you always like to have in the cupboard?
Coffee.

What spices can you not live without?
Garlic.

What sauces can you not live without?
HP.

Where do you buy most of your food?
M&S, these days.

How often do you go food shopping?
Once a week.

What’s the most you’ve spent on a single food item?
Don’t know. Not that much.

What’s the most expensive piece of kitchen equipment you own (excluding
‘white goods’)?

I don’t know if the microwave counts? If not, then probably the toaster.

What’s the last piece of equipment you bought for your kitchen?
A proper burr coffee grinder.

What piece of kitchen equipment could you not live without?
Cafetiere.

How many times a week/month do you cook from raw ingredients?
Maybe once every couple of months, but that’s only if you count scrambled
eggs. Otherwise, never.

What’s the last thing you cooked from raw ingredients?
Scrambled Eggs.

What meats have you eaten besides cow, pig and poultry?
Is duck poultry? I’ve eaten horse, lamb, venison, veal, alligator, ostritch,
zebra, guinea fowl, reindeer (pate) and erm, other stuff I’m sure.

What’s the last time you ate something that had fallen on the floor?

I dropped a biscuit yesterday.

What’s the last time you ate something you’d picked in the wild?
If "the wild" is the allotment my dad used to have when I was a kid,
about 20 years ago. Otherwise, never, because I was taught not to.

Sushi, Thai.

Chinese, Italian, Mexican, French (hard to choose between those two) and I will
not voluntarily eat the others.

other three.

Pizza Express. Bruschetta, and a Pollo ad Astra.

Pick a city. What are the three best dining experiences you’ve had in that city?

London. One of my Dad’s roast dinners, the dinner Fin and I ate at the Axis
resturaunt, and a meal Andrew cooked a few years back.

What’s your choice of tipple at the end of a long day?
Bushmills 16.

What’s the next thing you’ll eat?
Probably a cheese and bacon baguette.
