Than fuck. I hate not having a proper path in my finder windows.

It occurs to me that I own a Wiimote, but no Wii. Using it to turn my Mac screen into a multitouch surface might be fun. As long as, y'know, I use a pen and not my fingers. I'm not a client, after all. I don't need to do fingers-on-the-screen rubbish.

Ding! I have an OpenID (in fact, I have several, thanks to having accounts at a number of different sites that provide it, and keep meaning to set my own up so I've got control of my own ID) but I never use it, because it's as much faff as creating a username and password. If there was simply a button on my browser that I could click to say "identify me to this website", I'd use it a lot more.

Jason Kottke wonder if poor site appearance and lack of care in administration and moderation is a factor in the behaviour of its users. I have no way ofr proving this, but it feels true. Anyone know if there have been any proper studies in this area?
The Pleasure/Space Ratio
I am currently conducting a sizeable purge of my life.
I am dividing everything I own into three piles.
1) This item is useful, or contains useful information.
2) This item is not useful, but simply owning it brings me pleasure on at least a monthly basis, and the item is not larger than quite a small breadbox.
3) This item is not useful and is not small, and should be binned.
(Definition of “useful” is not limited to the strictly practical, and includes entertainment value – books, CDs and DVDs and similar are automatically “useful” as long they’re good.)
You would be amazed at the amount of stuff I have acquired that this does not cover. In future, I shall refer to this simple series of questions when evaluating whether or not I need to own something:
“Is it useful? Is it funny? Does it cause Is it larger than a breadbox?”
Week: Over
Well, that’s a spike put in one of the shittier weeks of my life.
Themesong:
“We walk but once among the living,
So no regrets and no forgiving
Hard to dance when you’re down upon your knees”
I have a week off work, and I intend to decompress like a motherfucker. And also tidy up. And dance.

I'm sure everyone's seen this by now, but there are some things in these documents that I think out to made mandatory reading for anyone that works in SF, and it's a fascinating insight into the origins of one of the longest-lived SF franchises out there.

A lot of it is generic stuff that you might say to anyone starting out in a creative discipline – "have something to say, find your own voice, be yourself, keep at it" etc. But there are a few gems in here.
Effervesence

It’s a champagne cocktail. I really wish I’d taken a bit more time to get the focus right, because obviously the thing I wanted pin sharp was the little silver balls in the drink. Still, this was taken with a point and shoot that I haven’t even taken 150 shots with yet, so I think I can cut myself just a little slack on this occasion – this is still quite pretty, after all.

Fascinating post about the emerging way wifi is coming to affect people's use of public spaces.
